I am an activist poet, decolonial dialogue facilitator, published writer and the founder of Learning 2 Unlearn. I hold a BA (Hons) International Studies Cum Laude from Stellenbosch University and am interested in big data analytics, pedagogical design and dialogical narrative change work. I was a prominent student leader at Stellenbosch University during the 2015/2016 #FeesMustFall student movement. And following the 2020 #BlackLives Matter uprising, the idea for Learning 2 Unlearn as a decolonial narrative consultancy was born.

Many say Heritage Day should be used to speak about effects of historical injustices

South Africans have been urged to embrace the country's complex cultural makeup on Heritage Day, which was officially recognised as a public holiday in 1995. Prior to South Africa's painful transition to democracy, 24 September was celebrated as Shaka Day to honour the legacy of Zulu King Shaka. President Cyril Ramaphosa called on all South Africans to celebrate Heritage Day with a musical phenomenon, saying: "There can be no better celebration of our South African-ness than joining the global phenomenon that is the Jerusalema dance challenge." However, there are those who say we should spend this day contemplating the effects of historical injustices.
