Climate Consciousness - A Return to Mother Earth

I had the absolute privilege of appearing as speaker for the Climate Consciousness Summit, that took place during this years COP. My contribution consisted of an interview titled "Healing Narratives - Decolonization and the Path to Climate Equity" with Sonita Mbah and a poem I wrote specifically for the summit closing ceremony called a Return to Mother Earth.

You can watch the interview and read my poem here below.

A RETURN TO MOTHER EARTH

I am the daughter of ancient lands,

Born where the sun kisses the sea,

Under skies that hold a million stars,

My spirit roams wild and free.

Ubuntu pulses in my veins,

A tapestry of souls entwined,

We are because of each other,

In our hearts, a shared design.

Mother Nature cries out to us,

Her tears rain down from the sky,

Forests whisper forgotten tales,

Oceans heave a heavy sigh.

She, She is not a silent stone,

But a mother with a voice,

Her rivers are her flowing veins,

Her forests, lungs of choice.

But We plunder and we ravage,

Intentionally Blind to the wounds we make,

Building walls between us,

With every tree we take.

We’ve paved concrete over her heartbeat,

Chased capitalist shadows made of steel,

Forgetting in our hurry and in our haste,

that the soul soil beneath our feet is real.

So, beloveds, are we teachable?

Can we learn a different song?

Is there courage to heal the scars we've woven,

Impetus To right the depths of our wrongs.

We lose ourselves in digital screens,

In gray towers scraping blue skies,

Ignoring how the eagle flies,

or even the color purple.

So Let us breathe with a deeper purpose,

And try to Balance the fire within our souls,

Embracing the art of calming spiritual storms,

Regaining the fractured fragments we stole.

In mutual recognition of life,

Let us find the mirror of our grace,

Emotion's tides we navigate,

and a kinder world we can embrace.

But if we pause and listen,

Feel the earth’s soul soil beneath our feet,

We might recall the ancient songs,

The drum rhythms of her heartbeat.

In awe and reverence, dance

Kneel down upon her ground,

Be Humbled by earth’s majesty,

For in her wisdom, we are bound.

This is our call to action,

A beacon through the dread,

To weave anew our destiny,

With hope and love instead.

So Let us mend the broken bridges,

Let us Reconnect the severed ties,

Embrace the wild within us,

Let her light fill up our eyes.

For she is a conscious being,

Alive in every way,

And we, her wayward children,

Must find our way home.

So let us follow the sound of Mother Nature's voice…

it is strong,

Her heartbeat syncs with ours,

In unity, we’ll find the path,

Beneath these endless stars.

So take my hand, beloveds

Let's journey back to her with grace,

In our return to our divine Mother Earth,

We'll heal this sacred place.
